A Jack Ryan season 2 review

I know I am late with this review, but I just finished the second season of Jack Ryan on Amazon Prime. Are you interested in finding out whether I liked it or not? Keep on reading this Jack Ryan season 2 review to find out!

We don’t know much about the number of people actually watching the Amazon original series, but considering how quickly they decided to create a second season of Jack Ryan (and now a third season), I believe they are quite satisfied with the numbers this show brings to the table. I really enjoyed the first season of Jack Ryan, and it kind of reminded me of 24, just with less brutal violence and with fewer bombs that had to be detonated one minute ago.

Wendell Pierce in Jack Ryan season 2

The second season continues in the same style. I didn’t know about the PS4 game for VR named Firewall: Zero Hour during the first season of Jack Ryan, but watching the second season, I really felt like the music and intro could have been taken directly from this awesome Playstation game.

Jack Ryan is played by John Krasinski. He is an actor that has walked the steps towards the top, and this Christmas, I actually noticed him a minor role he played in one of my favorite Christmas movies, The Holiday. He is one of the helpers of Cameron Diaz in her film studio, and it clearly shows how John Krasinski has walked the steps to become what he is today. Not only does he play the role of Jack Ryan, but he is also one of the producers of the show itself. But, he is not alone. Michael Bay, the man behind several Transformers movies, and also the recent Netflix original movie named 6 Underground, doesn’t need further presentation.

But, let us return to the second season of Jack Ryan and whether it is worth streaming or not!

It is always challenging to write sequels to success stories. What I enjoyed about the first season of Jack Ryan is that the story came to an end. That is also what I liked about 24 back in the days. So, the second season of Jack Ryan continues where the story left off, but it comes with a brand new plot and a brand new case to solve. I really do like this.

However, while the first season was a “traditional” hunt the terrorists with a bomb plot, the second season is more of a detective story about them trying to understand and track down bad guys in Venezuela. There is no bomb that will blow off, but democracy is at risk and a crazy president is behind it all. As a result, the second season of Jack Ryan isn’t at all as action-packed as the first one, but I don’t believe that has to be negative. This might actually feel closer to reality, and knowing that several countries worldwide are led by dictators, quite similar to Reyes in Jack Ryan season 2, makes this almost into a kind of an eye-opener.

John Krasinski is Jack Ryan himself

John Krasinski isn’t the only big name among the actors. In the second season he also bumps into Wendell Pierce again (James Greer), he meets Michael Kelly, and he is attracted to Noomi Rapace. The latter is a Swedish actor whom some might remember from the original The Girl with the Tattoo movies (the Swedish productions). She is great in her role, but the only pity is that we didn’t really get to see much of her. I do hope she will return in the third season and join us much more there. I almost felt the same about her as I did about the character of Gina Carano in The Mandalorian. She was there in the fourth episode, then she disappeared, and I was so happy when she once again showed up in episodes 7 and 8. So, I do hope she will return for the third season of Jack Ryan as well.

Is Jack Ryan season 2 better than Jack Ryan season 1?

To be honest, I enjoyed both seasons. Once you get started, they are addictive, and you will most likely watch all eight episodes of both seasons quickly after you get started. The first season felt more intense, but I enjoyed the actual story of the second season more than the one of the first season. So, I don’t really know what to say. I guess I would give a 7,5/10 score to both seasons. In other words, go ahead and watch both of them, I believe you will have a very good time!

You can watch Jack Ryan season 2 on Amazon Prime in the United States, in the UK, and in Germany. If you live somewhere else, you can stream it with a Prime Video subscription. Jack Ryan season 2 was good entertainment, but not something I will remember for a long time.

Now it is time to wait for Jack Ryan season 3 to arrive. It will most likely come to the streaming service in October 2020, so we will need some patience while waiting for it to arrive.
