IPVanish doesn’t work with Netflix anymore – What’s wrong?

Do you own a subscription to IPVanish? Have you been using it to stream Netflix for a long time, but now it doesn’t seem to work anymore? What is wrong? Is there anything you can do to fix the problem? What’s up with IPVanish and Netflix?

Netflix has launched a vendetta against VPN providers that has been continuous for the last 6-7 years. As a result, things change daily. What do I mean? The VPN service and the VPN server that gave me access to Japanese Netflix yesterday might not provide me with access to Japanese Netflix today. The same can be said about the other countries of the world as well.

How do I know my VPN isn’t working correctly with Netflix anymore?

Are you connected to an IPVanish server in the USA, Canada, or maybe Sweden? Are you trying to visit the Netflix website, but something seems wrong? It might very well be a problem with the VPN provider. But how can you see that something is wrong?

  • You can know for sure that something is wrong if you receive an error message when you try to stream actual content. The error message will tell you that a VPN or a proxy is detected on your system. You will have to disconnect from the VPN server to watch the content.
  • If all you can see is Netflix’s original content, you are most likely using a VPN blocked by Netflix. I call this a “limited” version of Netflix where you can only find Netflix’s material. You might be fooled by this and believe that the VPN is working correctly, but it isn’t! If you can’t see any local content specific to that given country, your VPN is detected, and all local material is hidden.

Are you experiencing one of these errors as you try to watch Netflix content with IPVanish? What can you do about it?

IPVanish and Netflix – Is it a good combination?

Back in 2013 and 2014, when I first used IPVanish with Netflix, it was a perfect combination. Since then, it has, however, turned worse and worse. When I write this article, it can be a real struggle to watch Netflix with IPVanish. An additional problem is the large number of servers in the IPVanish registry. They will all give you different IP addresses, meaning you have to test them all to know anything 100%.

I haven’t tested every IPVanish server, but whenever I have tried IPVanish servers in the USA or elsewhere in the world, I have never been able to stream the actual Netflix content of that given country. What does this mean?

IPVanish and Netflix aren’t a good combination anymore.

What can you do about this?

  • You should contact IPVanish customer support to get the most recent updates on their servers. Maybe they have added some new servers that give access to Netflix? It only takes some minutes to ask!
  • It is always wise to open an incognito window in your browser. You must log in to your Netflix account (since no cookies are stored in incognito mode). Using incognito mode might help, but I doubt it will since the VPN provider is the problem.

Should I choose a different VPN? Which to choose?

If IPVanish and Netflix aren’t a good combination, which VPN should you choose? At the moment I recommend using one of the following VPN providers.

  • ExpressVPN: It has been one of the best VPNs for Netflix non-stop for over ten years. They have fantastic customer service, and the service works with Netflix in approximately ten countries.
  • Surfshark: The VPN currently gives access to more Netflix countries than anyone else. During my most recent test, I could stream content in 16 different countries with this popular service. If you are an Ubuntu user, this is the best VPN for Linux.

These are the best options for Netflix streaming right now. Surfshark is cheaper than ExpressVPN, so it is probably the best option for most people. Visit the websites of both providers and buy a subscription to the one that convinces you the most.

There is no need to worry about Surfshark or ExpressVPN as both providers come with a 30-day money-back guarantee. As a result, you can try the service and ask for a full refund for one month after you initially sign up. ExpressVPN can be used on 5 devices simultaneously, while Surfshark doesn’t have any such limitations at all.

It might be that the answers given in this article weren’t the answers you were hoping for. I am sorry about that, but there is little I can do about IPVanish and the way it works with Netflix.
