How to watch Network Ten from abroad in 2024?

Network Ten is an Australian TV network, which is known by many as Channel Ten. They are one of Australia’s leading TV channels, allowing its fans to watch many programs online using Tenplay.

If you try to watch Network Ten from outside Australia, there will be a problem that is quite hard to understand. The problem is that you simply see a black screen and the video will not start. The reason is your geographical location, meaning that Network Ten blocks their online programs for viewers trying to watch from abroad.

This is a common strategy used due to copyright rules, saying that Network Ten is not allowed to broadcast its programs to viewers in the United States (for example). This is arranged by using a geo-block that will find your current location, and if you are outside Australia you will not be allowed to watch the video (instead you will see a black screen and a video that will not start).

2024 UPDATE
During my tests on this day, I watched Tenplay on-demand using SurfsharkVPN. I watched an episode of I’m a Celebrity, Get Me out of Here and it worked fine. The live stream also worked (it hasn’t done so before). Feel free to give it a try if you want to. If you don’t like it or it doesn’t work for you, ask for a full refund (this is valid for 30 days from the date of purchasing the VPN.

How to trick Network Ten and watch Tenplay from abroad?

To fool the website of Network Ten and many other similar sites, you will need to make them believe that you are in Australia, surfing with an Australian IP address. We have earlier written an article on the subject of how to get an IP address in Australia, and you can read that, or you can keep on reading this article for further information.

So, to watch Network Ten from abroad and to avoid the black video screen, you need an IP in Australia. As we fixed the problem, we used a VPN provider, a Virtual Private Network. The provider we found to be the best at first was IPVanish, but then suddenly, Network Ten blocked their IPs. Then we suggested HideMyAss, and later ExpressVPN, but now Tenplay has also blocked their IP addresses. But, a VPN provider that is still working to watch Tenplay abroad is SurfsharkVPN.

What you need to do is to visit their website, make a subscription, download their client, connect to a server in Australia, restaurant your browser, and in seconds you are ready to go and free to watch Tenplay and the programs available there from wherever you are located in the world.

If you decide to try this (which you should), it can be nice to know that SurfsharkVPN has a thirty-day money-back guarantee, so if you are not satisfied and ask for a refund within seven days, you should get one!

How to watch 10Play abroad with SurfsharkVPN?

Would you like to see exactly how this works in practice? How can you use SurfsharkVPN to watch Tenplay from abroad? Take a look at the following tutorial video from YouTube to see it step by step and how it will work. It is important to know that the instructions are the same also on mobile devices. The only difference is that you must have the 10Play application installed on your mobile device to stream the content. If you do not have the Tenplay application, you will have to download it from the Google Play Store, or manually to your device from here (if you have an Android device).

Sorry, the old video shows ExpressVPN (which no longer works with 10Play). However, the method is exactly the same, so purchase a SurfsharkVPN subscription, download the app, and connect to a server in Australia, and it should work!

Follow the instructions above, and if you haven’t signed up with SurfsharkVPN yet, click the link beneath to visit their website. Using that link will give you a big discount on all of their packages.

Surfshark VPNwith 30-day money back guarantee

Do not forget that SurfsharkVPN has a 30-day money-back policy, meaning that you can easily change your mind later and regret, and still get your money back. It is also possible to use the subscription you have at an unlimited number of different devices and locations at the same time. This is very ideal because either you can split the cost with friends and all of you can use the subscription at the same time, or you can turn into a big-time streamer using SurfsharkVPN on one device to watch 10Play from abroad, while you are at another device use SurfsharkVPN to stream American Netflix, and on a third device, you watch the latest episode of Dr. Who on BBC in England using SurfsharkVPN. And still, you can use the same subscription on more devices than that at the same time.

The opportunities are endless, so use your imagination and have a great time watching Tenplay outside Australia.

Lost Tenplay in the US via ExpressVPN last night (Feb 1, 2021) halfway through tribal council season 5 – absolutely gutted!

  2. Beth says:

As of last night, Surfshark is no longer working with 10play. Neither is NordVPN or ExpressVPN. Does anyone have any recommendations for a VPN that works with 10play? Thanks.

    • Thomas Stein says:

Man, I just tested, and it seems as if they have blocked acccess to the site totally for those using NordVPN, at least right now! Thanks for the help. Just updated the article with a different VPN that works with Tenplay on demand at the moment!

  3. Beth says:

I think there is confusion because the July update states that the Live stream is working, but that has not worked for me since mid-May. I am attempting to watch through the 10play webiste; is the Live stream working via the 10play app?

    • Thomas Stein says:

Sorry there, ExpressVPN has entirely stopped working with 10Play. They might fix it later, but doesn’t seem to work with on-demand, nor with live stream at the moment. But, I have just updated the article with a different VPN that I just got to work with the on-demand programs 🙂

  4. Annika Altmäe says:

Yeah Express VPN DOES NOT WORK with TenPlay, please update your blog and stop giving false information!

  5. Paul says:

I too can no longer get Tenplay live stream or VOD on my laptop, with ExpressVPN.
But it is working on my ipad, via the 10Play app.
    Live tv only

  6. Georgina says:

Live stream completely gone now too. I can’t use any version of 10play on any device or any server with Express VPN.

  7. Gavin says:

I reside in Thailand and use Express VPN to watch 10play Australia, has worked ok for about 9 x months, and then about 5 x weeks ago I get the usual message “for australian viewers only”……………………I have sent numerous emails to Express Support and get the usual unhelpful reply, “we are aware of an issue” or “our engineers are looking into it” or “try changing location”…………………….DO NOT PURCHASE EXPRESS VPN IF YOU WANT TO WATCH 10PLAY FROM ABROAD

  8. Georgina says:

In another strange development – I am in Malaysia (same time zone as Perth), and even if I use the server for Melbourne, Brisbane or Sydney I can only watch the live stream in Perth time. Have tried clearing cookies, changing the time on my computer, and it doesn’t make a difference. I’m interested to know if others are having the same issue.

  9. Georgina says:

Well I had VOD for 5 days, now it’s gone again. And we were looking forward to catching up on the Katy Perry episode of Masterchef today. Booooo!

  10. Amanda says:

I use NordVPN and it was working until this morning when I got an error message that stated 10play is for Australian residents only and to turn off my vpn.

  11. Thomas Stein says:

Not sure what to say, maybe lucky you!!! I just tried, and I got the live stream to work, but the VOD didn’t work for me… Anyway, glad that you shared your experience!

  12. Daniel says:

Just an fyi, express vpn is not working for 10Play VOD at the moment and has not been for over a month. They do not have an eta on a fix and have actually been pretty unhelpful about it.

  13. Chris says:

Hi, I have an Oz email account, and had express VPN for a year. It worked last year on Sydney-2 for MasterChef, but no joy for this year. Got in touch with express VPN and all they said was they were aware of the issue and their engineer’s were looking into it. That was 2 weeks ago 🙁

  14. Matthew Zagorski says:

I’m experiencing the same error as of a few days ago using Vyprvpn which worked perfectly for me last season. I’ve put a technical enquiry in to them but am so disappointed that I can no longer watch Masterchef! I will update here if I get any information from them.

  15. Debie says:

I use EpressVPN and it is great but it won’t work if account logins are required that block foreign email addresses. Using any VPN won’t work for 10 play work because you are required to create an account with an Australian email address. I even tried getting an Aussie email but that isn’t possible without a local phone number that can be verified. And no Exodus Redux isn’t working so unless I can find it on youtube no Masterchef Australia for me this season unless something changes.

  16. Kristin says:

It worked for me for the past 4 days but now we’re back to the error message that tenplay is only available in Australia. I’m gutted.

  17. Judy says:

I tried ExpressVPN yesterday and used the Melbourne server and it worked! Not sure how long it will be active but we had success last night!

  18. Georgina says:

I sought assistance from Express VPN and their eventual response was “thank you for your understanding”. I don’t think we’re going to get Tenplay video on demand back.

  19. Kristin says:

Same for me. Express VPN not working anymore with Tenplay. I can still watch Live TV on Ten, but I can’t watch anything else. And due to time zone differences, Live TV doesn’t help me at all.

  20. Judy says:

We’ve also been using ExpressVPN and have not been able to watch any content since beginning of April 2020. Tried various Australian locations with no success.

  21. Georgina says:

Same for me. My kids and I are really looking forward to Masterchef next week, we’ve got so little to get us through the days in lockdown!

  22. Jennifer says:

I also cannot connect anymore. Has not worked for me since Monday. Very sad as Australian living overseas and just trying to watch some TV from home :’(

  23. Rob says:

Since 31/03/2020 it’s become much harder to concert, I’ve tried numerous VPN’s and got lucky connecting but it’s very hit and miss now

  24. Christine says:

I have now tried via all of ExpressVPN’s Australian servers and have had no luck. I receive an unusual error code: MEDIA_ERR_SRC_NOT_SUPPORTED. Anybody else currently having this issue?

    • Thomas Stein says:

It is the error message they show you when you use a VPN that is blocked. It seems as if they just managed to block the working ExpressVPN servers. But, normally, ExpressVPN will come up with a fix within a few days, so I recommend some patience, and while waiting, use ExpressVPN to watch content on Netflix in the United States, in Canada, in the UK, or to watch BBC and ITV in the UK, and lots of other great stuff!

    • Thomas Stein says:

Yes, it should work through mobile. You don’t need a subscription really for tenplay at all, but if you actually want to pay and have to pay for anything, it might be that an Australian payment card is needed. But by default, there is no need for a subscription to stream the content on Tenplay.

    • Thomas Stein says:

By the way, just tried watching Masterchef now with ExpressVPN and it worked upon first try 🙂 Here you can see a screenshot of me watching Masterchef on Tenplay in Europe today!

      Mastechef on Tenplay abroad
      Looks good, doesn’t it?

        • Thomas Stein says:

I just gave it a try again. I had to use another Australian server this time (not the basic Sydney server). It is also important to use it in Private Mode or Incognito mode in your browser (it might help). By the way, I tested with both Tenplay and 9Now, and both worked! 🙂

  25. Gavin says:

Ive also been using Express VPN and not had an issue until the 15th of August, I too cant press play, the show and episodes load no problem, just get the spinning blue wheel.

Funny thing is it is not all shows on Tenplay, some still work and others dont, for example I can watch The Project without an issue.

Which had me thinking its not the VPN, I must be wrong, im in Thailand btw

        • Thomas Stein says:

          Hello there,
it worked with Sydney, but have a feeling that it doesn’t always work yet (30 mins ago when I tested it didn’t, right now it worked). I suggest, always contact their customer support, and they will most likely add some new servers if enough people give feedback like that… and try with the Sydney server once more, you might be lucky (and also use your browser in incognito/private mode – it might help).

  26. Emma says:

    Hi there,
I am having same problem a few of the recent comments described. I am an Aussie recently moved to the UK and signed up to ExpressVPN to watch the Bachelor on Channel 10 in Aus. I figured out the trick with Sydney 3 and Watched the first few eps but now it no longer works ! I have the same issue with the video looking like it’s about to work but when I put my mouse over the image to press play it’s a spinning ball that doesn’t stop.
Has anyone figured out how to get past this or why it’s happening?

  27. User says:

Sydney 3 server on ExpressVPN doesn’t seem to work for TenPlay. Anyone having issues as well?

It shows a show is playing but no video or audio…

    • Thomas Stein says:

Noticed the issues, but as I tried today, I could once again get Tenplay working using ExpressVPN. Hope it will last for a long time. Will do my best to keep the article up to date.

  28. Jes says:

Hi, I have just tried all Australian servers on ExpressVPN and TenPlay won’t work on any of them. Any help – much appreciated!

  29. Douglas says:

Hiya! I have IP Vanish (Aussie living in Sri Lanka) and TenPlay always used to work up until yesterday… SBS on demand is still ok but I can’t watch The Bachelor haha…I have a yearly subscription so I can’t cancel yet…

  30. Michael says:

Until 2 July 2019 I had no problems with ExpressVPN and tenplay.com.au with my Windows browsers (Edge and Chrome). Today, it now redirects to 10play.com.au and gives an error about geolocation. In the whack-a-mole world of VPNs it looks like 10 has worked out the ExpressVPN IP addresses 🙁

    • Thomas Stein says:

      Hi Michael,
just tried it, and I can use ExpressVPN and stream the content on 10play.aom.au without error messages… It might be important that you register your account with a zip code in Australia (I did that). Did you try to basic Sidney server? I used Chrome for this testing and no trouble 🙂

      • Michael says:

Hi Thomas, I made sure I have a valid post code, and I’m using Chrome through Sydney but I still get PLAYER_ERR_GEO_RESTRICTED when trying to watch Masterchef in catchup. Live TV seems OK. When I use the ExpressVPN check my IP it reports 221.121.132.51

        • Thomas Stein says:

          Hei Michael,
I simply don’t get it… I have no clue why it doesn’t work for you! I just tried once again… Without ExpressVPN I get all sorts of error messages, and then I connect to their servers in Australia (Sydney). Currently, two of them seems to work for me, and one doesn’t. In other words, I get to see it both with the Sydney and the Sydney 3 servers.

I thought, it might have to do with the zip code, so I tried to register an account with a very different Australian ZIP code (in Darwin), but even with this brand new account, it worked for me connecting to those Sydney servers.

Well, you can always get a refund with ExpressVPN, so no need to worry! You could also try opening your browser in privacy mode/private mode/incognito mode, maybe that will work, but it still sounds strange!

          • Michael says:

Sydney 3 with Edge in in-private mode eventually worked! Thanks for encouraging me to persist… I use ExpressVPN for all other sites, and it works beautifully…

          • Thomas Stein says:

Wow, I am so happy to hear that you got it to work! Enjoy streaming now that you have it all up and running! If you should need more help later streaming 10Play, just let me know!

    • Thomas Stein says:

      Hey Ela,
I just tried it now based on your comment, and I connected to the Sidney 3 server with ExpressVPN, and it works perfectly and I am watching Hawaii Five-O on Tenplay right now. Give it a try and let me know what is happening! If you need more help, just write!

      • Harry says:

I just tested what Thomas said with ExpressVPN and it works. There might be some servers not working with 10Play abroad, but then just connect to the server recommeded by Thomas or try some of the others, and it should work on all the important devices.

  31. Bec says:

Hi, I used Vypr VPN but still was not able to watch on tenplay. (Currently in Cambodia).
So I subscribed to Express VPN (and cancelled the other) but I got the same problem.
Tenplay still knows I am outside Australia. Any advice to make it work?
    Thanks

    • Thomas Stein says:

      Hey Bec,
I am just trying to watch Tenplay right now with ExpressVPN, and it works. Here you can see a screenshot of me watching Man With a Plan on Tenplay in Europe using ExpressVPN.
Watching Man with a Plan on Tenplay

    • Thomas Stein says:

Yes, it does! I have just tried it myself again now, and with ExpressVPN you can easily access and watch Tenplay outside Australia. Give it a try, and write a comment if you bump into trouble. But, I guess you want, because I just tested it, and it works!

    • Thomas Stein says:

You can use Allavsoft in part for this, though it really doesn’t work to well, but you will still need the VPN to actually be able to find the stream and the program you want to download!

  32. jocelyn says:

    Hi
I am now in London / UK
I have subscribed to IP vanish & connected to Sydney network.
While I am able to access some torrents sites blocked in the UK

I am still unable to watch masterChef on tenplay.com.au – same blank black screen issue occurred.
I logged into tenplay.com.au with a membership ID etc already.

    HELP! Thanks

    Jocelyn

    • Thomas Stein says:

      Hello Jocelyn,

thank you so much for writing, and in fact your comment has been of great help, because we just tried it ourselves, and got the same problem, so it seems as if Network Ten is blocking the IP addresses provided by IPVanish. Because of that it is not working. Luckily they have a seven day full refund policy, so just tell them the reason for signing up, and the fact that it doesnt work, so you want your money back! However, we tried to watch Network Then and the MasterChef on Tenplay using another VPN provider, HideMyAss, and then it was working, so now we recommend that instead. We have also rewritten parts of the article, to make sure that future visitors will sign up with HideMyAss instead of IPVanish! Good luck!

      • jocelyn says:

        Hey Thomas

Thanks for the reply. I have emailed to IPvanish to get a refund.

You very sure hidemyass will work? I read TenPlay’s FAQ & they say they block VPN access?
When did you last tried with HidemyAdd to make it work??

        Thanks
        Jocelyn

        • Thomas Stein says:

Hello! I tried HideMyAss as I wrote the comment, and then I was able to watch the MasterChef, and connecting to a random server in Australia I was able to watch tenplay online… Have you tried it by now?
