STEPN is the name of a play-to-earn concept that will help you earn while moving your body. In simple words, you are paid to either walk or run. But, it is a bit more complicated than that. In this guide, we will give you lots of information about STEPN; what it is all about, how you can be a part of it, how much you can earn with STEPN, how to buy a required sneaker, how you can activate your STEPN account, and so much more!

If you have never even heard about cryptocurrencies and/or blockchain technology, there is one additional layer of knowledge you need to acquire before you are ready to get started. After all, STEPN is based on blockchain technology (the tokens GST and GMT), and it is running on the Solana blockchain. Don’t be afraid if this sounds scary, it isn’t very hard to understand at all.

How to earn with STEPN?

Let us just answer this quickly. In order to earn with STEPN, you need to have a sneaker in your account. The price of a sneaker has been between $1000 and $1200 in recent weeks, so be prepared for this if you really want to give STEPN a try.

Once you have a sneaker, depending on what type you buy, you can use it either for walking, jogging, or running, and these activities will then give you GST (Green Satoshi Token) rewards. As you use a sneaker, it will need repair (costing GST), and you can also upgrade it (level up) to make it more efficient. That is what makes this a game, because you will constantly think about just repairing your shoe (in order to keep it in good condition) and take the rest as profit, or if you want to use your gains to upgrade your shoes, which again will make you able to earn even more in the future.

There is a limit to how much you can earn per day, depending on your shoe type, and also the number of shoes you own.

These were just a few words about how you can earn money with STEPN. We will write much more about this later in the article and also in other articles, but now you at least have some basic knowledge about how you can earn money with STEPN.

The first steps with STEPN (download, register, activate)

1. Download the application to your device.

The first thing you need to do in order to use STEPN is to download the application to your mobile device (iPhone/Android).

2. Register a STEPN user

When you have installed the application, login with your brand new user and with your email address. And then you are already facing one of the biggest challenges with the game… getting your activation code!

3. Get an activation code (one of the biggest challenges)

This is, unfortunately, one of the biggest challenges with STEPN. In order to use the application, you need an activation code. The activation code is free to get, but it is hard to get. How come? Daily at 13.00 GMT there are handed out activation codes for STEPN on the STEPN Telegram channel and on the STEPN Discord channel. If you are there and ready right then, you should be able to get a working activation code.

There is also a system in which for every time a user spends 10 Energy in the STEPN application, they will get access to a new activation code which they can share with someone. If you have one sneaker and use it to the max daily, it will take you 5 days to get your hands on one activation code. You will never receive a new activation code unless you have already used your existing activation code.

But, if you know someone who uses STEPN, why don’t you ask them if they can help you? Maybe they have an activation code to spare? We are also sharing activation codes with random followers on Twitter a few times a week, so you could also make an attempt at following us on Twitter and making your voice heard whenever we are arranging a new activation code giveaway.

No matter what, you do need an activation code. It might be boring to wait, but you will not be able to continue unless you get your hands on one!

When you have received your activation code, type it in, and you are ready to use the application for the first time.

Using the STEPN application

You are now ready to use the STEPN application. In order to really earn money with STEPN, you need to buy a sneaker. But, if you just want to give it a try, you can click the start button and go for a walk or for a run. It will then be considered “moonwalking.” This can be seen if you use the application without a GPS signal, or if you try to use the application without a sneaker registered to your account.

But, let us imagine that you really want to use STEPN and its play-to-earn functions. As a result, the first thing you need to buy is a sneaker.

1. Create a SOLANA wallet

The first thing you should do is to click the wallet bar in the upper right corner. You will then be taken to your Spending account (where all values should be 0). You can also see the link to your wallet. You now need to go here and then you will have to create your first Solana wallet (if you haven’t made a wallet yet).

It is extremely important that you take good care of your private key, and do not share it with anyone (NEVER EVER). No support from STEPN or elsewhere will ever ask you to share your private key. If any website or person ever ask you for this code, you can at once know that they are a scammer trying to steal your money/funds/sneakers!

When your wallet is ready, you will now see your Solana address on the wallet page, and you can click the “RECEIVE” button that will show you a QR code with your address and also your full address in numbers and letters.

Now that you have your Solana wallet ready, you need to buy some actual SOL tokens that you can send to your wallet and then later use them to buy your first sneaker.

2. Buy Solana (SOL) tokens and send them to your wallet

In order to get actual money (SOL tokens) in your wallet, I suggest that you create an account on either Binance or Kucoin. When you have created an account on one of those exchanges, transfer funds from your actual bank account to the exchange and use that money to buy enough Solana tokens in order to buy a STEPN sneaker.

When you have bought Solana on Binance or Kucoin and have the desired amount of SOL in your Binance wallet, go to wallet overview, find your Solana balance and choose withdrawal.

In the address field, make sure to paste the Solana address that you see on your wallet page in the STEPN application. It is absolutely recommended to do a “test transfer”, that is, send only 0.1 Solana the first time you try. If this works properly, send the rest later.

When you have sent the funds, it should take somewhere between 3-10 minutes for the SOL tokens to arrive in your wallet. You will then be able to see them in your wallet within the STEPN application.

In order to use the SOL to buy a sneaker, you need to transfer the SOL tokens from your STEPN wallet to your STEPN Spending account. Such a transfer normally takes place within a few seconds.

You will now see the SOL in your spending wallet and you can head over to the marketplace and buy a STEPN sneaker.

3. Buy your first STEPN sneaker

It is getting exciting, isn’t it? You are just about to buy your first STEPN sneaker and it is most likely gonna cost you at least $1000. It might feel pretty scary, right? What should you look for when buying a sneaker? What are the differences? Here we will share some of the basic stuff that is very important to understand.

Chose a suitable sneaker for you – Walker, Jogger, Runner, Trainer

First of all, it is time to choose which shoe you want to use. This is very important because depending on the speed at which you plan to move, these operate differently.

As you can see above, you need to choose a type that is suitable for your tempo and needs. If you only plan on walking, do not buy a runner, because you will never move at the optimal speed, which again will ruin your rewards.

You might say that the trainer is the “best” sneaker, simply because it will suit all these categories. But, the Trainer sneaker is normally more expensive than the others. No matter what, find a sneaker that suits your needs.

Which attributes are important when buying a sneaker?

You will quickly see that there are attributes and other things worth understanding as you buy a sneaker. Let us take a look at them right away!

• Level: The higher the level of a shoe, the more you can earn with the shoe, and the better the shoe will become. For every time you level up a shoe, you can add +4 value in total to the four categories (Efficiency, Luck, Comfort, Resilience). You can add all four to the same category, or split them into one each, or however, you want to.

Above you can see the price of leveling up in STEPN. For example, to level up a sneaker from level 1 to level 2, the price is 1 GST. It takes time to level up, so this process will take 1 hour.

To level up from level 3 to level 4 will cost 3 GST and this process takes 3 hours.

When you buy a sneaker, it can look like this.

As you can see, the left example has a nice “green” candle next to the base value. This is because the seller has already added the +4 attributes after every single shoe level up. To the right, you can see a level 5 sneaker in which the +4 hasn’t been added, meaning that you will be able to add the “points” to whichever attribute you want to after buying the sneaker.

In other words, the higher the level, the more bonus points will be added to the attributes, making your sneaker better. But, what are those attributes all about?

Understand the attributes of the STEPN sneaker

• Efficiency: This is important to earn as much GST as possible when moving. In other words, the higher this value, the more you can earn. You can learn more about STEPN sneaker efficiency right here.
• Luck: While moving, it is possible to win mystery boxes. It costs GST to open those, but they will (hopefully) boost your sneaker. The higher the Luck attribute, the more likely you are to be awarded mystery boxes.
• Comfort: Once this reaches level 30, you should be able to receive rewards in GMT instead of GST (if that is something you would prefer). Currently, this is not active and available.
• Resilience: This has to do with the strength of your sneaker. The higher the resilience, the lower the cost of repairing your shoe. Whenever you use your shoe, it will be “tired out.” Before moving, it will be at 100/100. But, if you spend 2 Energy, then you might see the shoe fitness decrease to 95/100. There is no danger yet, but if it drops below 50/100, you will earn fewer and fewer rewards. In other words, keep your shoe fit, and repair it whenever you have used it to keep it at 100/100.

Above you can see a chart made by the awesome @StepnEurope showing how your resilience level will influence the durability of your sneaker. If you have resilience at 5, you will see your shoe decrease by 4.5 for each and every Energy you use. In other words, upgrade your resilience, because it will save you quite a lot over time.

What is the Mint number when buying a new sneaker?

We have discussed the sneaker level, and we have also discussed the four attributes (resilience, efficiency, luck, and comfort). But, what is the mint number when you buy a new sneaker?

A new sneaker is made by minting two existing sneakers. This can be done by anyone owning two actual sneakers. The two sneakers will then be the “parents” of the new sneaker that is created through minting. The minting level of a sneaker tells you how many times it has been used to mint a new sneaker. This is vital to understand because the more times a sneaker has been minted, the more it will cost to use it for minting once again. Below you can see an overview describing the price of minting a new sneaker in STEPN.

Let us say that you buy two level 5 sneakers (COMMON) that have been used for minting twice. These are the cheapest sneakers (normally). The price to mint a new sneaker from your current (existing) sneakers will then be 120 GST and 180 GMT tokens (these have to be in your spending wallet for this to succeed).

What is the difference between the COMMON, UNCOMMON, RARE, and EPIC and LEGENDARY sneakers?

You will quickly notice that the biggest difference is the price. It is a giant jump already between COMMON and UNCOMMON, and the increase will get even bigger as you move further up. By default, a COMMON sneaker will give you 2 ENERGY per day, but this number gets +1 if you own an UNCOMMON sneaker.

Energy boost if you own:

• Uncommon sneaker: +1
• Rare sneaker: +2
• Epic sneaker: +3
• Legendary sneaker: +4

Not only do you get an energy boost, but when you mint a new sneaker, you will see that the different sneaker levels will give you higher levels of attributes.

• Common: All attributes will start between 1-10
• Uncommon: All attributes will start between 8-18
• Rare: All attributes will start between 15-35
• Epic: All attributes will start between 28-63
• Legendary: All attributes will start between 50-112

There is also a difference in how many points you get when you level up. We have said that you get +4 if you level up with a COMMON sneaker. However, if you level up an UNCOMMON sneaker you get +6 instead, while you get +8 with a RARE sneaker, +10 with an EPIC sneaker, and +12 with a LEGENDARY sneaker.

Go for a run with your new STEPN sneaker

When you have bought your first sneaker, you are ready to go for a run. Or, maybe not! The truth is, when you own one sneaker, you are entitled to 2 ENERGY per day (if it is a COMMON sneaker). This is added as 0,5 Energy 4 times a day (every sixth hour). In other words, energy is added four times a day, every six hours.

Energy is added at the following times:

• 02.00 (GMT)
• 08.00 (GMT)
• 14.00 (GMT)
• 20.00 (GMT)

If you have one COMMON sneaker, you have 2 energy per day. But, there are other ways to get more energy per day. Check the illustration below to learn more about that.

As you can see above, you can increase your level to 4 energy per day if you have three sneakers in your wallet. You can increase it even more if you have nine sneakers in your wallet.

In general, 1 ENERGY = 5 minutes of movement.
How much you will earn per energy depends on your sneaker type, your efficiency, and other factors.

How much can I actually earn with STEPN?

This is very relative and hard to predict as it depends on your sneaker, your average tempo, your efficiency, the repair cost of your sneaker, and so much more. But, if you really force us into writing something, then let us say that you should be default be able to earn somewhere between 5 GST and 10 GST per day if you have one COMMON sneaker and move 10 minutes within the optimal speed range of your sneaker.
