Ubuntu is a fantastic operatic system, but it can sometimes be hard and even impossible to play popular games made for other platforms such as Windows, Xbox, and Playstation. What about Fall Guys? Is it possible to play Fall Guys on Ubuntu in 2023?
There are many guides available explaining how you can play Fall Guys on Linux systems. Most of them are, however, outdated, and they will not help you play Fall Guys on Ubuntu 2023. What is the reality? How can you play Fall Guys on Ubuntu in 2023? Follow these instructions and you should be able to play the game within some minutes.
Fall Guys on Ubuntu (and some other Linux systems) in 2023!
I will write these instructions thinking that you are running a freshly installed version of Ubuntu with only the basic programs installed. Follow these instructions and run the given commands in order to make it work!
Step 1: Install Steam
The first thing we will do is to install Steam on your system. Run the following commands to get started.
sudo apt update
sudo apt upgrade
sudo add-apt-repository multiverse
sudo apt install steamYou have now installed Steam and you can find the Steam application among the other programs running on your Ubuntu computer.
Now it is time to move on to the next step.
Install Proton Experimental
Start the Steam application. It will most likely install some updates the first time you run it. If you don’t have a Steam account yet, create one.
Now we need to install Proton Experimental. To do so, do the following.
- Click the Library text from the menu in the Steam application.
- Search for Proton Experimental in the search bar on the left. Click the Proton Experimental text and install the program.
Now it is time to move on. Do the following.
Install Wine
Wine is an emulator that helps you play Windows games in Ubuntu. You can install it using the following commands.
sudo apt update
sudo apt install wine64If you have a 32-bit version of Ubuntu installed, change wine64 in the command above with wine32. You can also install Wine by opening the Ubuntu Software application and search for Wine and then install it from there.
Install Heroic Games Launcher
Now you need to install the Heroic Games Launcher which is the Linux version of Epic Games Launcher.
sudo apt install flatpak
sudo apt install gnome-software-plugin-flatpak
flatpak remote-add --if-not-exists flathub https://flathub.org/repo/flathub.flatpakrepo
flatpak install flathub com.heroicgameslauncher.hglYou have now installed Heroic Games Launcher and you can launch the application from the start menu in Ubuntu just like you launched Steam and other programs installed on your system.
There you have the Heroic Games Launcher icon. Click it to open the Heroic Games Launcher application.
Log in with your Epic Games credentials.
As you launch Heroic Games Launcher, you must log in with your Epic Games credentials. If you don’t have an Epic Games account yet, create one. The next step is to search for Fall Guys in the store. Download it to your computer through the Heroic Games Launcher application.
When it is installed, go to the Fall Guys settings and select the “Other” at the bottom of the screen. Here you need to select an alternate EXE to run. Go to the Fall Guys folder and select RunFallGuys.exe.
Make sure that the Wine version is set to Proton-GE-Latest.
You can now close this screen and run the application. You will be asked to install some Microsoft runtime environment programs the first time you run Fall Guys. After a while, the program will launch but you will be met with an error message telling you that there is something wrong with the files and that Fall Guys is unable to run on your system. That is a part of the plan so don’t worry!
Close the game and return to the Heroic Games Launcher. Click the Fall Guys cover and you will see another page like the one below. Click the three dots and click “Enable EOS Overlay.” This will install one more thing on your computer, so just wait until it has happened after clicking.
It is time to move on. Return to the settings icon and this time click disable the EasyAntiCheat Runtime, and then Enable it. This will most likely install an additional program on your computer. If you skip this step, it is very likely that you will be unable to play FallGuys and it will tell you that AntiCheat isn’t enabled on your system.
The last step before running Fall Guys is to click Run EXE on Prefix. You will then see the files on your computer, and you need to enter the Fall Guys directory, then select EpicOnlineServices, and then select EpicOnlineServicesInstaller.exe.
When this has been selected, you can leave the settings and try to run Fall Guys once again. You are now ready to play Fall Guys on your Ubuntu system.
