ITV is one of the best TV channels on earth, at least if you are a fan of popular TV series such as Britain’s Got Talent, Who Wants to be a Millionaire, Emmerdale, Champions League matches, and lots of other stuff. But, if you want to watch ITVPlayer from abroad you will have a problem because you need a UK IP address to watch it!
If you want to watch CBS from outside the USA, you need an American IP address, and the principle is the same for those who want to watch ITV from outside the UK. You need a UK IP address, and the best way to get it is to use a VPN service named ExpressVPN. A VPN is a secure connection that is established between your computer and a computer somewhere else. When a connection is made your activity online will seem to originate from the server you are connected to. The result when connecting to a server in the UK is thus that you get a UK IP, which again makes it possible for you to watch ITV from abroad.
This article has been updated in September 2021 to make sure that all information is correct and that this information will still work if you want to watch ITV from abroad.
To watch ITV online you now need to register on ITV.com. That is easy, just fill in the forms with your name, a password, and your email address, date of birth and a postcode in the UK. If you do not have a UK postcode, scroll down to the bottom of this article, and you will find suggestions for postal codes that can be used.
Watch ITV online with VPN
If your goal is to watch ITV from abroad, maybe Britain’s Got Talent, Love Island, the FIFA World Cup, Coronation Street, or some other program, this is what you need. It will not only help you watch ITV from abroad, but it will also take care of your privacy online, and it will give you a real UK IP address. Hence you will be able to watch ITV live streams available online and of course use the ITV Player from abroad. There are several services offering IP addresses in the UK, but the best is ExpressVPN.
Once you have visited the ExpressVPN website, make sure to sign up for their services, download their client and open the ExpressVPN application. As you open the ExpressVPN application, press “Choose location.” Now you should find the United Kingdom. Choose East London (for example). Double click, and it will automatically connect. Once connected you have a UK IP address, and you are ready to watch ITV from abroad. This also works on Android and iOS systems!
We are writing this article from outside the UK and have tested this ourselves and can tell you that it is working. Just take a look at the following screenshot which we just took watching the ITV live stream from abroad.
How does this work on Android?
If you use an Android device you will need to manually download the ITV Hub application if you haven’t installed it yet. You can download the ITV Hub application from APKPure.com. After downloading install the application, and you should be ready to go.
It might be that your phone will warn you about installing applications from unknown sources. That is no problem, turn on the ability to install from unknown sources (if you get such a warning), and you will have the ITV Hub application installed quickly.
How does this work on iPhone and iPad?
You need to download the ITV Hub application from the Apple Store. If you cannot find it, you need to create a new Apple User ID registered with an address and ZIP code in the UK. Once this new Apple ID has been created, log in with this ID on your iPhone or iPad (for use in the Apple Store). When this is done, open the Apple Store and search for ITV Hub. You will find the application and you will be able to download it. Once this is done, feel free to change your Apple Store ID to your “real” Apple ID again.
UK postal code to watch ITV online
ITV now asks you to enter a postal code when starting their live online stream to find out where you reside. We have tried with different postal codes, and it seems all that matters is that it needs to be a UK postal code. Here you can find some examples of postal codes that should be working: W1K 7AA – SW1A 1AA – SW1A 0AA – L4 0TH
Do I need the ITV Hub+ package?
As you register for ITV Hub+, you might be surprised when you suddenly get asked if you want to sign up for the ITV Hub+ package which will cost you 4 GBP per month. That might be a lot, and you do not really want to pay that. So, is it needed? In general, the answer to that question is no!
The difference between the ITV HUB+ and the free package is that you do not get any ads in the plus package. But, if you watch live streams, you will get to see those ads no matter what because it is impossible to remove the ads from the live streams. If you only plan on watching a few shows on ITV for a limited time period, the number of commercials is so few, that it ain’t worth the money either.
Another difference between ITV Hub+ and the free version is that you can download content and watch it offline on your iPhone and iPad if you have the Premium package. That is useful if you plan on watching your favorite content offline, or while out traveling in an area without an Internet connection. But, it is limited to iOS systems only.
The way we see it, the ITV Hub+ subscription is a waste of money, so we would rather spend our money elsewhere. But, the decision is, of course, entirely yours.
Paying for the ITV Hub+ package
If you really want to the ITV Hub+ package, feel free to sign up. But, you will need a payment card issued in the UK for this to work. It is quite easy to get one, and you can read more about how it can be done in the following article.
Good luck and enjoy watching ITV online from outside the United Kingdom. If you want to watch the BBC and other TV channels online as well, read these instructions.
