Dumplin’ – a big disappointment!

December was the month of three Netflix original movies that I really looked forward to. Dumplin’ was one of them, and I hoped it would become a funny comedy starring Jennifer Aniston.

Jennifer Aniston is the beautiful mum who doesn’t really have time for her daughter. Not only did she win a beauty contest in her younger years, she is still one of the main faces of the beauty competition, and her life is all about being beautiful.

Her daughter, Dumplin, doesn’t look at all like her mother. It is no wonder where she got the name from, because it strongly resembles her actual look. But, the daughter is fed up with the lack of attention and she decides to take some sort of revenge on her mom. She is signing up for this years beauty competition, shocking her mum and all the other participants.

You can watch Dumplin’ on Netflix everywhere, as this is a Netflix original movie. It ended up a Netflix movie since no other network really wanted it. But, did Netflix do wisely to buy the movie? If you look at Rotten Tomatoes, it currently has an 84% Critics Score and a 79% Audience Score. Those are fantastic numbers. Unfortunately, I do not agree with them, and one of the critics who didn’t like the movie wrote the following:

“A movie so lifeless you’d have more fun guessing the Netflix niche group that the production is supposed to satisfy.”

I have got to agree with the critic referred to above, as I had a very boring time watching the movie, in fact, I had trouble watching it till the end.

How did you like Dumplin?

It isn’t enough to feature Jennifer Aniston to make a movie great. She might do her job bringing the audience to the movie in the first place, but she isn’t enough to keep you attached to the screen throughout the movie.

What do you think? Have you seen Dumplin’? Did you like it? I would love to hear your thoughts about the movie!
