Would you like to watch the movie named The 15:17 to Paris, the story of the Thalys train attack in 2015 on a train between Amsterdam and Paris? It is based on a true story and the main characters in the movie are actually the ones who were on the train and stopped the actual terrorist.
I remember the incident with the train back in 2015, but I didn’t know that a book was written about it and that later Clint Eastwood directed a movie based on the story in the book. But, then it showed up on my list of movies coming to HBO Now in June 2019 and I back then knew that this was a movie that I wanted to watch on HBO Now in June.
If you want to know even more about the movie, take a look at the trailer from Youtube above.
For how long will The 15:17 to Paris be on HBO?
I don’t know for how long it will remain on the streaming platform, so I would hurry up and watch it straight away. But, my personal guess is that it will remain on the platform for 4-5 months. If you want to watch the movie on HBO Now but cannot access it because you live abroad or are currently residing outside the United States, follow these instructions to watch HBO Now abroad (and find out how to sign up and create a user and pay for the subscription even if you do not have an American payment card).
Is The 15:17 to Paris worth watching on HBO?
Before you start watching, you might ask yourself whether or not this movie is worth 90 minutes of your life. If you have read about it on Wikipedia, or maybe checked Rotten Tomatoes or IMDb, you might know that it has received a lot of poor critics online. In the Wikipedia article about the movie, you can currently see a short summary of most reviews putting it like this: “A “well-intentioned” but “strained to wring a full-length feature’s worth of drama out of [an event] that was over in a few minutes” “.
Before I watched the movie, I didn’t know anything about the general reviews and feedback of the movie. I had great expectations, but I guess I felt kind of what was summed up in the short text above. The climax of the movie is the actual attack on the train, but this only lasts for a few minutes. It is interesting to learn more about the lives of the three heroes, but to be honest, their lives felt very average, and thus it is like watching a movie about nothing special. We follow them through their childhood, and we see them as they travel through Europe on a trip. They enjoy Rome, they visit Amsterdam (and get very drunk), and we see something most people could show in a video about their lives.
Now, this might be negative, or maybe rather boring, but at the same time, that is what makes it so interesting. Here we see a movie about three boys who were average boys, with average problems, and who never really stood out in the crowds. They weren’t the best in their classes, and few people believed they would become the big heroes back in 2015. But, some average people did something extraordinary and stopped a terrorist attack that could have killed hundreds of people. In other words, there is something about the movie that might make it encouraging to me and you.
The 15:17 to Paris summary
This isn’t the most amusing and entertaining movie you will ever see. But, it tells a true story about some average people who saved the on August 21st in 2015. I find that to be quite amazing and I do not regret a minute actually watching the movie. I probably wouldn’t watch it again, but it shows the importance of taking our place in society and doing what we are good at, and one day, we might be noticed for it, but if not, we will still do it!
Have you see The 15:17 to Paris? How did you like the movie? I would love to hear what you think about it after streaming it on HBO Now (or somewhere else).
